Nature's enchanting fossilized coral is bezel set in a handfabricated sterling silver pendant. The handstamped, oxidized design in the silver blends into the starbursts of the coral. The beaded strand matches perfectly, with freshwater pearls, peachy red aventurine, oxidized silverplated rondelle beads and clear taupe Czech glass disks. There's also a handcrafted oxidized sterling silver hook and eye clasp (not shown). This necklace is available for sale online; click the photo to reach the listing.
This website presents a sampling of jewelry and "Bejeweled Hats" that I create in Arlington, MA. I've been told that it's both the design and the details that make my accessories special. I'm inspired by color and texture and by working with quality, eclectic components, including one-of-a-kind artisan beads. Many of my clasps, earwires and other findings are handcrafted by me from precious metals, copper or brass, depending on what suits the design best. My hats are, except for a few lightweight knit hats, 100% wool handknit and felted to make them warm and luxurious. They're each custom "bejeweled" with hand-selected components. My jewelry and hats can be whimsical or elegant. Often, the combinations are unexpected which, when it works, is always fun!
Please contact me for more information, including on availability of anything shown here, or to discuss custom designs. If you are the owner of a shop dedicated to featuring local artists' unique creations, please contact me to discuss offering some of my jewelry or bejeweled hats to your customers. If we both feel a synergy, I will be happy to work with you to provide just the right one-of-a-kind Bonprise Designs accessories for your clientele, and to help promote our partnership. (Please note that all my pieces are unique and, therefore, I prefer not to sell my work in a shop that requires exclusivity. I think this is a policy harmful to artists and the community. But, let's discuss any concerns you may have.)
Retail customers can buy my handcrafted jewelry online at my Etsy shop "Bonprise" or, in the Boston area, at Firefly Moon (Lexington, MA) and LUV And Other Gifts (Arlington, MA). Each shop carries a different selection of unique pieces -- always changing -- with a few samples shown on this website.
Until its closing a few years ago, a very sad loss for our community, Divinity's Splendour Glow -- a beloved shop supporting artists for decades in Arlington Center -- also carried my jewelry. It was the first store that sold my jewelry and this worked out really well! Other shops that have carried my jewelry include the New England Quilt Museum gift shop (Lowell, MA) and Mad About Shoe (Winchester, MA).
Please note that, while I try to keep it updated, any piece for sale in the "brick and mortar" shops might have sold since posted here. So it's a good idea to contact the shop directly soon if you're specifically interested in any of them. Or contact me and I will try to track it down! (Some have even come back home to me when we've restocked.)
Be sure to find us and "like" us on FACEBOOK for updates on my newest jewelry and special discounts.
"Terra Turquoise" necklace and earrings set
Gorgeous turquoise in green, blue, teal hues, with a rich brown matrix is perfectly complemented with matte Czech glass rondelles in a terracotta color. They're handknotted together into the necklace, about 19 1/2 inches long. The necklace closes with a handcrafted by Bonprise fine silver toggle clasp, hand-formed and finished. The matching earrings feature hammered sterling silver embellishments and sterling silver earwires. Sparkly "Erinite" Swarvovski crystals accent all pieces. Available as a set in my online shop; click the photo to link.
Felted "Bejeweled" Hats
I hand knit these hats with 100% wool then felt them to give a dense, luxurious texture and warmth. They're each decorated with the perfect combination of gemstones, buttons, beads and, sometimes, hand knitted hatbands. All the hats shown in this photo have been sold but others are available in my Etsy shop, in LUV and Other Gifts, and as custom orders. The possibilities are endless! See what hats are now available in my online shop! ________________
Midnight Ice earrings
These earrings feature some gorgeous briolettes of rutilated quartz, along with onyx, Swarovski crystal and silver. These are particularly good quality, with very fine needles of gemstone inclusions or "rutiles" (I believe the black is tourmaline). The textured fine silver bead caps were handmade by me using metal clay (see Jewelry Topics for more examples). Leverback earwires are sterling silver. These exquisite earrings, and others like them, are on sale in my Etsy shop; click the photo for the link. If you want a custom order with rutilated quartz gemstones like these, contact me.
"Blue Wave" earrings
These pretty earrings feature handmade fine (pure) silver circles that I've hand-textured and finished for this organic effect. The gemstones are blue chalcedony and labradorite. The sterling silver earwires are handcrafted and hammered. These were sold at Divinity's Splendour Glow, but more earrings using my handmade fine silver elements are shown on the Jewelry Topics page, and several are available in my online shop.
"Pearl Girl" bracelet
This cute bracelet features creamy white Swarovski crystal pearls and multicolor Czech glass disks. Closure is a clasp handmade with a mother-of-pearl button and a loop of pearly white Japanese seed beads. It is now for sale in my online shop.
"Lacy Belles" earrings
Two matching bell-shaped, gorgeously detailed curly agate cabachons are bezel set in hand-fabricated sterling silver "bells", polished to a high gleam. Earwires are handcrafted of sterling silver with a serpentine motif. These one-of-a-kind beauties have been sold.
"Desert Fire" turquoise necklace
Graduated nuggets of turquoise with deep green and teal hues are combined with smaller matching turquoise rondelles, cubes of red jasper and oxidized silverplated disks. The toggle is sterling silver with a perfectly complementing textured design. This one sold recently but there are some other Southwestern-inspired gemstone necklaces in my Etsy shop.
"Bronze Blossoms" bracelet
This bracelet features pale blue and deep brown in dramatic contrast....the gemstones blue lace agate and smoky quartz, along with detailed antiqued brass bead caps by Vintaj. Its closure is a clasp handmade with a vintage-reproduction Italian brass button and bronzy metallic Japanese glass seed beads. This gorgeous blue version is for sale in my online shop. (Click the photo.) Or, if you'd prefer a pretty pink version, with rose quartz instead of blue lace agate, it's for sale online, as well.
"Chocolate Kiss" earrings
Big, bold faceted briolettes of rich smoky quartz anchor these earrings. They're hand-wrapped with sterling silver wire ending in a swirled flourish. The sterling silver earwires are also handcrafted. The pair in the photo has been sold, but another pair, to be made to order with similar stones, is for sale online. Click on the photo for the listing. And another gorgeous pair, Smoke and Pearls, featuring the same size smoky quartz but in combination with Swarovski crystal pearls is also for sale online.
"Peach Sorbet" Keshi pearl necklace
Keshi or "petal" freshwater pearls have the most amazing, organic shapes. They just flutter at your neckline so gracefully! This necklace features peach keshi pearls of very high quality, with sparkly pastel colored ("Silk") Swarovski crystals and tiny sterling silver beads for accent. The clasp is a sterling silver textured box clasp (not shown). "Peach Sorbet" recently sold in my Etsy shop. But, some other keshi pearl necklaces, each very unique, are available at Firefly Moon or in my online shop. If you'd like one with crystals, similar to this, contact me to discuss a custom order. The pearls will be different, but the design will still be sparkly and elegant.
"Teal and Copper Raku" bracelet
A very warm bracelet featuring handmade Raku pottery beads by Texas artist Ruben Yzaguirre, along with copper and teal Czech glass cubes. The hook and eye clasp is handcrafted of copper. This is now for sale at the New England Quilt Museum gift shop.
This dramatic necklace focuses on a polished slab of onyx, about 40 by 30 mm, richly banded in black, browns and white. Complementing beads of onyx and smooth, glossy smoky quartz bring it all together, closing with a sterling silver clasp (not shown). This necklace was sold at Divinity's Splendour Glow. Also sold at DSG was a dramatic Mocha Latte necklace with three onyx slabs even bigger than this one! My stock of these onyx slabs is now all gone, unfortunately. But, if you like this look, contact me for a potential custom order. My local bead shop carries some treasures, including dramatic gemstone slabs like this.
"Sea Mist" earrings
Each of these unique earrings is made from a piece of genuine seaglass, tumbled by the sea to a frosty texture. It is bezel set in a hand-fabricated sterling silver base with an organic shape complementing that of the luminous seaglass. The silver is hand-textured and polished, and the earrings dangle from handcrafted sterling silver earwires. The aqua pair was sold but the cobalt blue pair is still available for sale online. Click the photo for more information.
"Chrysocola Recycled" pendant necklace
Making new jewelry from found items is satisfying on so many levels -- it's creatively challenging, environmentally friendly, etc. Also, finding these items in yard sales and vintage shops, and thinking about how to use them is, to me, as much fun as any other "treasure hunt". This pendant started out as a brooch, apparently made by an Israeli silversmith, that I found in the Cambridge Antique Market. The gorgeous, huge chrysocola oval stone is set in sterling silver, stamped "Israel" on the back. Age had oxidized the silver which, to me, made it perfect for the stone. I sawed off the pin and ground the back smooth, then made a sterling silver ring that I oxidized and polished to match the metal in the original piece. I then made the matching bead strand, with onyx, chrysocola, and oxidized silver plated spacer beads. This closes with a handcrafted oxidized sterling silver beaded hook and eye clasp (not shown). I thought about selling it, but for now it's in my personal collection! Though, who knows...maybe it will show up some day in a "junque shop" ;-) If you're interested, I'd consider selling it..it IS a gorgeous stone!
